Thoughts on BJTU
The campus of Beijing Jiaotong University is a small town full of all the amenities; a lot of supermarkets, ATMs where withdrawing, a big library, a lot of shops where everyone could buy books and other stuffs useful for the life of a student.
I truly appreciated the fact that the cars access to the campus was not always allowed and so every student could walk or ride a bike without problems.
School life
I was really fascinated by the effectiveness of each subjects. I chose six subjects, including two subjects for learning Chinese. For each subject is required an active participation of students and this purpose is also achieved by assigning tasks, and homework.
I found very highly prepared professors and I am sure that the things I learned from them are going to be very useful for my working experience and for my life, their teaching and their views have been precious for me.
Life in China
Before going to China, I was really worried about not being able to enjoy Chinese food. Once arrived, I realized that I was wrong. I really appreciated Chinese food, especially the spicy ones.
One of the best things that an exchange student can do in China is travelling and visiting places. I saw places and people that will always be in my heart; especially, in Beijing I visited Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, and Summer Palace.
I went also to the Great Wall and to Inner Mongolia and I was really fascinated by the desert and by the Mongolian lands.
Useful tips
Dormitory
The dormitory has two common kitchens and one laundry room; each student needs a special card for starting cooking and Alipay for using washing machines.
The staff of the dormitory is very kind and available for every need; even if they don’t speak good English (and I didn’t speak good Chinese, especially in the first month) we always found a way to communicate with each other and to solve every kind of problem.
Food
In the campus there more than 10 canteens in which every student can find the most suitable food for his needs.
Activities
Each student could choose between different activities to do in the campus joining one or more than one associations, and I was charmed by the quantity and quality of football pitches situated in the campus.
Travelling
It’s easy to find organized visits or organized trips; in WeChat there are a lot of groups (like CET trips) that almost every week organize travels and visits.
